Plant and Fibre Printing Art Workshop – Friday 15th and 22nd July

Come along and take part in a new exciting two part workshop on using plants and fibres to “print” on paper. No drawing ability required, just a sense of adventure.  There is no right or wrong way, just the opportunity to create & be surprised. During this unique workshop, you will create your very own choice of a Hedgerow or Seascape using natural materials with inks and paints.

Part 1. 2.5 hours (incl. Demo ) on how to place fibres, splash on paint & ink, cling film & weight down.

Part 2. 2.5 hours on how to deconstruct, review and enhance “painting” by adding extra features.

Attendee needs to bring:

  • Reference pictures of chosen “subject”.
  • Old bath towels (to go under & over board).
  • Plants suitable to make marks from (flatter the better), especially if doing a hedgerow.
  • Seaweed wet and dry (if possible) for a seaside picture. Rinse in clean cold water, pat dry between kitchen roll or old towel.
  • A mixture of threads (wool, string, lace, nets – natural fibres are best.
  • Small spray water bottle (500ml plant sprayer).

Please wear OLD clothes as Part 1 can get messy!

Class Tutor & Artist Jane Johnson

I started painting again in 2012 on instruction from my GP to “get a hobby or I’m not signing you back on” after chemo. Luckily for me it was August and Hampshire Open Studios had just started their annual 10 days art extravaganza. So I got inspired & signed on for a watercolour art class. By 2015 I had spent 3 years learning from 2 experienced tutors before attending Sue Rubira’s Workshops and learning new and exciting watercolour & acrylic ink techniques over the next 3 years which I now apply to my work today. In 2017 I also started attending the Haven Artists monthly art workshops, purely to learn how to use acrylic paints. We would decide on monthly topics which we had the option of getting inspired by If I’m lucky one painting can span 2 topics.

After nearly 5 years I can now say I make up one of the 10 core members of the Haven Artists I have 3 main areas that interest me: Acrylic mixed media Plant & Fibre art printing using watercolour and acrylic inks Collages, again with watercolour & acrylic inks. Do I have a style? I would say no but my friends would say yes, though I’m not sure they can name it! I paint what I am inspired to paint and generally this will include several scenes of my home, Guernsey. To say I owe my sanity to art would not be an exaggeration and I hope it will long continue.
