Class Tutor & Artist Jane Johnson
I started painting again in 2012 on instruction from my GP to “get a hobby or I’m not signing you back on” after chemo. Luckily for me it was August and Hampshire Open Studios had just started their annual 10 days art extravaganza. So I got inspired & signed on for a watercolour art class. By 2015 I had spent 3 years learning from 2 experienced tutors before attending Sue Rubira’s Workshops and learning new and exciting watercolour & acrylic ink techniques over the next 3 years which I now apply to my work today. In 2017 I also started attending the Haven Artists monthly art workshops, purely to learn how to use acrylic paints. We would decide on monthly topics which we had the option of getting inspired by If I’m lucky one painting can span 2 topics.
After nearly 5 years I can now say I make up one of the 10 core members of the Haven Artists I have 3 main areas that interest me: Acrylic mixed media Plant & Fibre art printing using watercolour and acrylic inks Collages, again with watercolour & acrylic inks. Do I have a style? I would say no but my friends would say yes, though I’m not sure they can name it! I paint what I am inspired to paint and generally this will include several scenes of my home, Guernsey. To say I owe my sanity to art would not be an exaggeration and I hope it will long continue.
